Previously this honor was reserved for Peter Finch who won an Oscar award, 2 months after dying of a heart attack, for The Best Actor in 1976. He played a role of a TV anchor in the film “Network”. The death of the actor fuelled the publicity for The Dark Knight which propelled it to the top of the charts making it more than $1 billion. Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment 5 months prior to the release of The Dark Knight. He died due to an overdose of a prescription drug.
