23 Sep
G1 by T-Mobile, Google's first Android phone

G1 by T-Mobile, Google

The Google phone for which everyone has been waiting for has been released by T-Mobile and it is named G1. It is the first ever phone to run the Google’s Android platform.

Because Android is Google’s innovative, open-source software platform for mobile there will be a plethora of applications ranging from shopping, blogging, social networking, news, events and many more to hit the Android application market. All of the applications will be ready for download following the phone release on October 22nd. The phone will cost $179 on T-Mobile for a two-year period.

The G1 isn’t short of features and there are a lot of them but some have pointed out that the G1 looks cheap in comparison to other equivalent phones.

- The G1 has WiFi and 3G radio built-in support by T-Mobile for (HSDPA) which automatically connects to the best available, high-speed network! Cool.
- A 3 megapixel camera
- The G1 is an HTC handset manufactured for Google and T-Mobile which slides to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. This makes the G1 more of a “data” phone.
- The G1 also has a FULL HTML browser support so that the users see a website as it was supposed to be seen. The user can also zoom in to read a particular section of the website by tapping over it.
- Google Maps to instantly and accurately view maps, street addresses, find local businesses and restaurants, get directions and satellite view – everything from one, simple touch interface.
- Support for GMail, Google Calender with email support for POP3 and IMAP so that you can surf the web while the emails download.
- The G1 has built-in support for high speed browsing and data transfer and also a 3-megapixel camera so that you can upload all of your pictures right to Picasaweb, Google’s photo sharing and hosting service.
- Google Talk to chat with all your buddies on the go!

After taking over the Internet by storm, Google now sees the mobile platform a revolutionary way to reach a massive audience? ( approximately 2.7 billion users ) – audience that is not accessible via the web is now accessible through the phone market.

Pine Bark Extract or Pycnogenol

21 Sep
Day 306: Keeping Healthy

via Flickr

In a recent study at UC Berkeley scientists have discovered that the Pine Bark Extract is a potent antioxidant and it may also help in boosting the effects of Vitamin C, a potent treatment for Cancer. It increases the lifetime of vitamin C which in itself is a powerful antioxidant and anti-aging agent.

For the study a host of natural compounds were examined for antioxidant activity and it was found that the pince bar extract whick is available as Pycnogenol (pik-nah-je-nal) is the most effective among the other natural antioxidants.

The pycnogenol suppresses the production of nitric oxide and immunizes the body from bacterias and other viruses. Nitric Oxide or NO is also related to inflammation, arthritis and Alzheimer’s disease.

The notable study found out that people suffering from knee arthritis who took the pine bark extract for 3 months reported relief in their knee pain. It was also found that the pain persisted after the extract which is marketed as Pycnogenol was stopped after 2 weeks.

This is a total herbal medication and was taken by Europeans and North Africans but it was only until this study that light was shed on its modern medical implications.

Brewfest from World of Warcraft

21 Sep

There has been so much buzz regarding the brewfest on the internet. All the blogs are talking about it. Most of the forum members are rejoicing. But what is Brewfest all about?

Brewfest is a beer festival organised by World of Warcraft. In their words, “Celebrated by both the Horde and the Alliance, the Brewfest is a time to enjoy the fruits of the harvest: pretzels, cheese, and brew! The competing breweries Thunderbrew, Barleybrew, and the Ogres, all come together outside of all the major cities in a bid to outdo each other with their special ales, meads, and beers. Brave adventurers are invited to sit back, take a pull, and sample the finest wares these brewers have to offer!”

This Brewfest reminds me of the Beer Festival organized in Germany and it looks so much fun. Beer everywhere and people enjoying their day getting drunk. WoW is trying to do something of this sort. This Brewfest beer festival starts on the 20th of September through 4th October.

The main Brewfest festivals are located near Orgrimmar and Ironforge. There will also be beer gardens set up outside of Silvermoon City, Darnassus, Undercity, Stormwind , Thunder Bluff, the Exodar and Shattrath.

The Brewfest is all about drinking as much beer as you can and not having to worry about any of it. There’ll be free, foamy beer provided to everyone outside Orgrimmar and Ironforge.

Activity to do in Brewfest

Brewfest is not just about quenching your thirst for beer but also to show the whole world (World of Warcraft only, though!) what a mighty adventurer you are! And so there are a lot of adventures for you to show off your skills.

Ram Racing

You can attempt to race a Ram by speaking to Ram Master Ray or Neill Ramstein but they’ll only give you a Ram once you prove your skills to control one. Once you’ve proven your skills to control the Ram you can earn Brewfest prize Tokens by picking up beer kegs from Kharanos or Razor Hill and bringing them back to the fest – as part of the adventure.

Brew of the Month Club

This reminds me of those expensive beer clubs that supply you with an exclusive bottle of beer all the year every month. Same goes for Brewfest Brew of the Month Club.
For 200 Brewfest tokens you too can enjoy the exclusive Brew of the Month Club for 1 year.

Defend the Fest

You’re a hero, ain’t you? And so there’s something more than just drinking free beer and racing Rams. You’ve got to save the day for everyone in World of Warcraft by defending the attacks of The Dark Iron Clan dwarves that raid the free beer tables every half hour.

Ticket Exchange

This year WoW has implemented the Token system instead of the previous Ticketing system. If you’ve got tickets from the last year, its the best time to exchange them for tokens.

Ceremonial Keg-Tapping

Each day at 6.15 both AM and PM server time, High Tinker Mekkatorque (Ironforge) and Vol’jin (Orgrimmar) come out to the Brewfest grounds for a brief Tapping of the Keg ceremony. And just by witnessing the ceremony you can increase your experience by 10%. Great.

Brewfest Token Prizes

Lastly there a lot of cool prizes up for grabs for your tokens. Check the image below for the prizes.

Apple Recalls iPhone 3G Ultracompact Power Adapters

20 Sep

Apple has announced the Apple Ultracompact USB Power Adapter Exchange program. In other words, Apple has just made a recall for the power adapters of its hottest product in the market – the iPhone 3G!

The background for this recall is that Apple, after receiving some reports of detached prong blades? has determined that the prongs of its power adapters can break off and remain in the power outlet and cause a danger for electric shocks.

The countries affected by this recall are the ones that use Amercian styled plugs. The whole list of the countries is here so please verify.

Latin American countries where adapters were sold with iPhone 3G or as a standalone accessory:

  • Colombia
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Peru

Latin American countries where adapters were sold only as a standalone accessory:

  • Argentina
  • Chile
  • Costa Rica
  • Panama

In the meantime, Apple has urged its customers to restrain the use and utilize alternate methods like computer USB charging or car charging. Note: The users having a green dot on their adapter need not participate in this exchange because it is already determined to be safe.

The replacement starts from October 10 and there are 2 ways to get your replacement

  1. Via the Internet
  2. Apple retail store

You need to bring the iPhone as well as the adaptor to exchange at the retail stores.

Microsoft’s $300 Million Ad Campaign – “I’m a PC”

20 Sep
Image representing Microsoft as depicted in Cr...

Microsoft Logo

Yes, those stupid, meaningless Bill-Jerry commercials won’t be aired from now! Instead Microsoft is promoting what is used by Apple against Microsoft – their own brand PC. It took Microsoft forever to really “get” the concept.

Like it or not Microsoft is the Computer in almost the whole world. There are places where all what people know about computers is Bill Gates and Microsoft. Nothing more. I like Windows. I don’t like bashing.

After launching those teaser Bill-Jerry ads about life, shoes and whatnot. These ads change the PC brand which Apple had degraded into some sort of a dirty, buggy and uncool Operating System and now Microsoft is ready to beat Apple at its own game. I wonder why it took so long for Microsoft to understand this.

Who Made These Ads?

Crispin Porter & Bogusky. Yes, this is the company that is trying to uplift Microsoft as a brand for normal users. These are the folks who’ve worked with Burger King with regards to improving its image as a calorie-filled food provider.

One thing I see strange about the ad is that we can see Bill Gate’s email which is bill@windows.com

Anyways, I like these ads and are much better than those vague ads that lasted less than a couple of weeks.

Watch these and comment about what you liked or didn’t like about these ads. OK?
